Lord of the Rings Online goes free-to-play
Warner Bros has announced today that its hit MMO Lord of the Rings Online will be made free to play from this September. Warner Bros has made this decision after their success from Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited last year. Warner has earned 500% profit from the game and this was never expected by them. Warner believes that MMO will also be a hit.
Jim Crowley, president and CEO of Turbine said Dungeons & Dragons was the first truly made free online game which made a huge profit last year. He also believes that this is a good move in the era of games and when more online gamers are emerging up.
Warner is planning to make money from items, weapons, quest packs, expansions and account services. The company also plans for some VIP programs which will give unlimited access to all the contents.
