EVO first day sales has been overstated says Sprint Nextel Corp

The overall sales of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on the open day was similar to the sales of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices together sold on the first three days on the market.

“We initially stated that the overall sales of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on first day launch were three times the sales of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold on the first three days on the market together.”

“We unintentionally made a mistake in the comparison,” said Sprint on Tuesday.

The previous estimation of EVO sales in the first weekend was 250,000 to 300,000.
Walter Piecyk, BTIG analyst said that he was cutting his estimation to 150,000.

The No. 3 U.S. service provider for wireless said that the EVO phones were sold six times more on the day of launch than the Samsung Electronics’ Instinct phones.

Sprint believes EVO will lend a hand to the client losses and start selling the 4G services. The competitors of Sprint, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone Group Plc have planned to commence 4G services later this year.
